High-speed broadband internet in all schools by 2030
The ICT department is working closely with the Ministry of Primary and Mass Education to introduce coding education in primary schools from next year. The 'Hour of Code' training is going to be started soon in collaboration with ITU and UNICEF.
At the same time, in order to make the girls proficient in information technology, the State Minister for ICT Zunaid Ahmed Palak said that they are working to introduce STEM education for them in collaboration with ITU and the World Wide Web Foundation.
Palak informed so in his inaugural speech at the 'Girls in Tech Day Bangladesh' program on Tuesday.
The state minister also said that the ICT department has taken several initiatives in a joint venture with UNICEF to ensure safe internet access for the youth.
He also said that by 2030, every school in the country will be connected to high-speed broadband internet by setting up 35,000 modern digital labs across the country.
Zunaid Ahmed Palak said that under the Digital Connectivity project, 170,000 schools in the country will be connected to fiber-optic high-speed internet connectivity by 2030. Girls in ICT programs, Job Opportunity and Empowerment have been launched to ensure that no one is left behind digitally and there is no gender discrimination in the digital arena.
The state minister also said that out of the 11 lakh students who have already used the 'free text' of the ICT department, 320,000 are girls. At the same time, he gave details of various initiatives taken by the ICT department to prevent digital gender inequality.
Suku Kanda, Asia Pacific Regional Director of the International Telecommunication Union joined the event as chief guest at the event.
